CNBC has come out with a list of U.S. minted pennies that could be valuable. Regular pennies that are probably still in circulation. Sure, some are worth hundreds of thousands to more than a million, but most of these are coins worth hundreds or maybe a couple of thousand. But those are usually older coins—there are many of these coins that were produced as recently as the 90s. Pennies that have some small minting mistakes. Some so small, you wouldn't even be able to tell if you didn't know what you're looking for. (Thank God you have friends like me to tell you about this stuff)

One of the reasons I stopped to read this article is a 1972 penny I found recently (shown above). I think it has a "rim anomaly"—possibly due to the mint's die striking the penny too hard or at an angle. Is it worth something? Maybe. Maybe not. I'll check into it and get back to you.

In the meantime, get out your magnifying glass and get to work. Here's the story.
