June 25 was WITL Night with the Lansing Lugnuts at Jackson Field, as the Lugs hosted the Great Lakes Loons from Midland.

WITL Night Looked a Little Different This Year

The annual takeover gave WITL listeners a chance to put faces with the voices they hear every day on 100.7 WITL, Lansing's #1 for New Country. Well, that was the plan anyway. Unfortunately, an unexpected illness kept morning co-host JR from taking part in the night's planned festivities — including singing the National Anthem as originally planned. Instead, Alexa Becker, one of the Lugnuts' season-long National Anthem performers selected through a lottery, stepped in to sing.

Scott Clow from WITL afternoons still represented the station by throwing out the ceremonial first pitch before joining Lugnuts broadcaster Jesse Goldberg-Strassler for play-by-play during the fifth inning.

Tropical Vibes Took Over Jackson Field

The evening also featured "Margaritaville Night", with fans showing up in tropical shirts, leis, and island gear while the Lugnuts took the field in special tropical-themed uniforms. The first 1,000 fans through the gates received a free Margaritaville T-shirt, and Lansing's own JP and The Energy kept the party going with live tropical music on the concourse before and after the game.

Mother Nature couldn't have cooperated much better, providing a picture-perfect late June evening with temperatures in the mid-70s and just a light breeze out of the northeast.

Loons Shut Out Lansing 2-0

On the field, the Loons blanked the Lugnuts 2-0. Samuel Dutton turned in a strong start for Lansing, working seven innings and allowing just one run in the fifth. Tucker Novotny pitched the final two innings and surrendered the game's second run in the ninth.
