One Last Night of Racing in Jackson, Michigan
If you've ever been to the Jackson County Fair to see a concert (and we've hosted some good country shows there) you either sat in the grandstands of, or right on, the Jackson Harness Raceway. Not anymore.
There will be one final night of harness racing at Jackson Harness Raceway as a farewell. It'll happen on July 8th. Then, the racetrack will be no more. According to MLive.com, the racetrack will be destroyed to become more space for the Jackson County Fair midway and parking.
The Jackson Harness Raceway was in existence for the last 60 years, but the last harness race there was in 2008. Things weren't going well for the track as far back as the early 2000s, but it was hoped that the state would pave the way for the track to turn into a "racino" - combining harness racing with casino gambling games. That never happened.
Time marches on. Here's the story.
