The latest ratings from Niche.com reveal that Okemos isn't just one of the best places to live in Michigan — it's now the #9 best suburb to live in the United States.

Yeah. The entire country. Let that sink in for a minute.

Out of more than 6,800 suburbs nationwide, Okemos cracked the top ten. Not the top 10 in the Midwest. Not top ten in Michigan. Top ten in America.

If you've spent any time around Okemos, you probably aren't surprised.

Why Okemos Ranks So High Nationally

For starters, it consistently ranks as the #1 best place to live in Michigan and also the #1 best suburb in the state.

That's thanks to a combination of things people really care about when it comes to choosing a place to live — things like great schools, safe neighborhoods, and plenty of parks, restaurants, and local amenities.

Okemos also gets high marks for being family-friendly and for attracting young professionals who like that it has a suburban feel while still being just minutes from Lansing and Michigan State University.

How Okemos Compares to Other Places in America

According to Niche's national rankings, Okemos also placed #19 among the best places to live in America overall (suburbs, cities and small towns all included), and #37 for raising a family.

Not bad for a suburb of just over 26,000 nestled in Mid-Michigan.
