A new ranking of the "Best Places to Live in Michigan" is out, and the results in Mid-Michigan are a little bit surprising.

Spoiler alert: Okemos didn't even make the Top 10.

Homesnacks looked at things like crime rates, home values, income levels, and overall quality of life to put together their list.

At #10, Alma kicks things off, followed by Eaton Rapids and Charlotte — three smaller communities that all have that "everybody here knows everybody" vibe.

East Lansing lands at #7, which isn't terribly surprising. The city is basically powered by Michigan State University, which means things are always lively, diverse, and buzzing.

The middle of the list has Marshall, St. Louis, and Ionia — all small towns that balance small-town charm with easy access to bigger cities.

To be fair, Grand Ledge does check off a lot of the boxes — it's got great schools, scenic views along the Grand River, and it's close enough to Lansing that you're never far from the action.
