Nobody’s Going to Beat This Michigan World Record
Take a look at your convenient hand-map of Michigan. Right near the tip of your index finger is Alpena. I have to admit - I've never been to Alpena, Michigan, but I may have to go now, because it's the home of a Guinness World Record holder.
Clarise Kramer Cadarette Grzenkowicz, holds the world record for "longest career as a bartender.” Clarise owns the Maplewood Tavern on French Road, north of Alpena. She's 99 years old now and has been bartending there for the last 78 years. She earned the world record way back in 2011, when she was only 92. I'd be surprised if this record falls anytime soon.
According to the Detroit News, Clarise married the son of the original owners of the bar when she was 20 and has been there ever since. She now owns it with her son and daughter. They don't serve food and the bar only plays country music. And her son Henry says, "we don’t allow no riff-raff or drunks.” Sounds like my kind of place. I may get kicked out for being "riff-raff", but I'll take my chances.
