Is This the Most Beautiful Restaurant in Michigan?

If there's a more beautiful restaurant in Michigan, I'm not sure where it is.

People magazine recently published its list of "The 50 Most Beautiful Restaurants in America", choosing one from each state, and the one they selected to represent Michigan is absolutely gorgeous.

Michigan's most beautiful restaurant, according to this list, is located about a block away from Detroit's Comerica Park, inside part of what once was the Michigan Oriental Theatre. Little Caesars Arena, The Fillmore, and the Fox Theatre aren't far away.

According to cinematreasures.org, most of that theater was torn down in the early 1950s. What remains is its lobby, and that's where the upscale Asian fusion restaurant PAO Detroit has operated since 2019.

The food and service at PAO Detroit are well-reviewed, but the restaurant's unusual and eye-popping atmosphere gets just as much attention.

People magazine points out that PAO Detroit incorporates "original details from the 1920s-era Detroit building" and "a new mezzanine and glass garage-style doors".

The entrepreneurs behind PAO Detroit worked hard to preserve the cultural history of the old theater. The building had been unoccupied for decades before PAO Detroit took over the space and completely revitalized it.
