This Was the Best Restaurant Meal I Had in Michigan in 2025 – Here’s Why
It's that time of year when a lot of us take a moment to reflect on the important things that have occurred in our lives over the past 12 months — relationships, our careers, etc.
However, let's not overlook what got us here.
My Pick for Best Michigan Restaurant Experience of 2025
I'm talking about food. Because of course I am.
Renowned Spanish chef Ferran Adria is quoted as saying, "What you feel like eating at any given moment is what you should have." Who can argue that?

I've had occasion to dine at dozens of fine establishments around Michigan throughout 2025, and as I ponder all the great places I tried, there's one restaurant in particular that still makes my mouth water just thinking about it. Tia Helita's in Burton.
My love for Mexican food came about during the years I lived in Texas, and I consider what's offered in the Lone Star State to be the gold standard by which all other Mexican food served in America should be measured. I never expected that all that would be eclipsed by an unsuspecting cantina outside of Flint, Michigan.
What Makes Tia Helita’s Special
You ever have one of those places that no matter how great everything else on the menu looks, you can't help but stick with that one menu item that just transcends all else?
For me it's the seafood burritos at Tia Helita's. I wish I could list all the ingredients for you and extol their virtues like Guy Fieri would do. I can't. I remember flour tortillas and shrimp and cheese, but then I went into a food coma. I recall the beans and rice being amazing.
Every time I've ordered those seafood burritos this year — and I have done so multiple times — the dish has been top-notch and enough to knock me delirious.
It's practically a religious experience. It's worth the trek even if you're nowhere close.
