Michigan Restaurant Sells $1 Mil Lotto Ticket, Closes Days Later
A Michigan restaurant that had been in business for six years abruptly closed on March 6, just four days after selling a Powerball ticket worth $1 million.
According to the website for the Michigan Lottery, Ándale Mexican Grill & Cantina in Commerce Township sold a Powerball ticket for the March 2 drawing that matched all five white balls, but not the red Powerball - a match worth a cool million dollars.

Jennifer Vackaro of White Lake, Michigan, told lottery officials that she and her fiancé were just hanging out and having a drink at Ándale when she bought the lucky ticket. Little did she know she'd end up picking the winning numbers, and little did she know it would likely be the last time she and her fiancé would get to enjoy that particular restaurant.
Vackaro won her prize on a Saturday night. The next Wednesday, Ándale patrons were greeted with an eloquent and appreciative farewell note on the restaurant's website and social media. The restaurant abruptly closed without notice.
No reasons were given for the sudden closure, promoting some patrons to wonder whether the owners had actually been the ones to snag the $1 million Powerball prize, absconding with their winnings. A few other Facebook comments mentioned the odd timing of the restaurant's closure just days after the big lottery win, but most of the remarks were from customers who were simply sad to see the restaurant go.
According to the retailer application for the Michigan Lottery, retailers typically receive a 6% commission on pull-tab wins, and a 2% commission on any other lottery prize won at their establishment - unless otherwise specified by their contract.
In this case, the owners of Ándale would have been in line to receive a commission of $20,000 on the $1 million Powerball prize. No word on whether they collected their commission or whether the lottery win had anything to do with the restaurant's sudden closure.
