America is dotted with thousands of craft breweries, but not every state is created equally when it comes to craft beer opportunities. As it turns out, Michigan is particularly blessed.

In fact, we love a good beer so much that we even have a city (Grand Rapids) that is nicknamed 'Beer City U.S.A.'.
It's facts like those that make send when you learn that Michigan ranks in the top 10 when it comes to states with the most craft breweries.
How Many Breweries are in Michigan?
When it comes to number of craft breweries, the Brewer's Association says that the Mitten State is filled with 418 of them, giving Michigan the rank of 8th overall most breweries.
Keep in mind that Michigan is not the most populace state in the nation either. Michigan is the tenth most populated state with approximately 10,077,331 people (according to the 2020 census).

Number of breweries isn't the only thing that makes Michigan's beer scene so epic. In 2023 alone, Michigan did over two billion dollars in beer sales, giving it the rank of 11 out of 50. And on average, Michigan produces over 300,000 barrels of craft beer per year.
Coming in at number eight, that means there are only seven other states that have more breweries than Michigan. Those states are Ohio (7), Texas (6), Washington (5), Colorado (4), Pennsylvania (3), New York (2), and California (1).
