Michigan Cafe Owner Creates Pierogi Paczki
Have you started preparing yourself so you can eat an entire box of pączki on Fat Tuesday? I'm not judging. You do you, honey. I'll be your own personal Matilda, cheering you on to finish that last bite like she did for Bruce.
Are you a fan of pierogi? In case you don't know, pierogi is a Polish dumpling. Now imagine this, pierogi pączki. Polish Village Cafe's owner Carolyn Wietrcykowski created them so you can prepare yourself for Fat Tuesday on February 16.
Wietrcykowski wanted to create something different this year that people would remember, so she combined the two.
“I was just thinking about all the different things that are happening and that I did want this Pączki Day to have something new so that it was exciting, because we wouldn’t be able to provide the same thing we did in years past. I was like what two better words are there: pierogi and pączki.”
Polish Village Cafe is located in Hamtramck and has been offering traditional Polish dinners for years. If you're interested in trying some of their other pierogi, they have several different types from potato and cheese to chicken pot pie. Their pierogi-pączki are available and can be ordered online.
Did you know there's pączki vodka? Detroit City Distillery created a vodka infused with raspberry pączki that sells out in a couple of hours. If you want to give it a try this year, place your order online.
