Currently a debate is raging in America and, presumably, Michigan. Could it be about politics? Social injustice? Global warming?

No.

There's some evidence that PB&M sandwiches have been popular in the south for a long time. Dale Earnhardt, Jr - famous southern boy, Michigan favorite and a guy who actually drove the #88 Hellman's Mayonnaise race car last weekend in the Xfinity Series race at Richmond, gave his opinion about the situation - 2 years ago!:

Where do YOU stand? We wondered if the influx of southerners, who came to Michigan to work at the auto factories all those years ago, brought their peanut butter and mayo sandwiches with them. Looks like they did. And, while the internet is busy debating the pros and cons of PB&M sandwiches - our callers were strongly PRO peanut butter and mayo.
