Michigan Class Ring Found is “Too Much of a Coincidence”
This is a cool story.
When Ronald Birou, who's now 85 and lives in Bonita Springs, Florida, was younger, he was a student at Royal Oak High School. According to the Detroit News, he fell in love with Beverly Cougler, who lived in Ferndale and went to Hazel Park High School. He gave her his class ring in 1951, they dated, got married and stayed married until Beverly passed away on February 8th, this year. Late last year, a Royal Oak man found that ring with his metal detector, buried in Birmingham - the next town north of Royal Oak. With only initials on the ring, it took some doing, but Ronald was finally reunited with the ring last week.
Ronald says, "I looked at this as a sign from her that everything is OK. It’s just too much of a coincidence to be anything else.”
But now that one mystery has been solved, there's another. When did the ring go missing? Ronald says, “I don’t think she ever told me she lost the ring."
