Marshall Michigan House Stars in New Movie
Last weekend my lovely wife and I went to Marshall, MI for their 55th Annual Historic Home Tour. The "star" of this year's tour was a little off the beaten path from the other homes, but worth it. The Cronin House is the inspiration for a movie that comes out next week called "The House With a Clock in It's Walls". The movie, based on a 1973 children's book by Marshall author John Bellairs, stars Jack Black and Cate Blanchett. The story revolves around Lewis Barnavelt and his warlock uncle, played by Black.
The movie was filmed in Georgia, but one of the tour guides at the house said the interior movie sets faithfully recreate the house's interior. Including the 4-story, tightly wound staircase. The house is still being renovated by it's new owner, so it might be even better by the time they have the tour next year. According to a story in the Chicago Tribune, next weekend, Marshall has several events planned to celebrate the opening of the movie. Here's a link to find out more.
Marshall is a cool little town. When you go - I can highly recommend Schuler's Restaurant - the food's as good as the quotes written on the beams on the ceiling. And don't miss the American Museum of Magic.
