They've done it yet again — Mackinac Island has earned another accolade.

It's no secret that Mackinac Island is one of the most beautiful places in Michigan, and now everyone is going to know it, because U.S. News and World Report just named it the "No. 1 Summer Travel Destination in the U.S."

Mackinac Island Ranked Above America’s Most Iconic Parks

A total of 18 destinations that made this elite list, and Mackinac Island beat out Glacier National Park (2), Mammoth Lakes (3), Yellowstone National Park (4), Zion National Park (5), and even Grand Canyon National Park (6).

To determine the best of the best, U.S. News and World Report looked at several categories: sights, culture, friendliness, food, family-friendliness, nightlife, accessibility, adventure, romance, and value.

Here's why they said Mackinac Island came in at number one:

Located between Michigan's Upper and Lower Peninsulas in scenic Lake Huron, this car-free island is perfect for travelers in need of a laid-back summer vacation. Enjoy the mild weather (think: highs in the 70s) from the historic Grand Hotel's 660-foot front porch, the largest in the world. Or, soak up the sunshine while kayaking, biking Lake Shore Boulevard and hiking to the Instagram-worthy Arch Rock. For a classic Mackinac Island experience, take a horse-drawn carriage ride through the island's downtown, stopping to sample some of Mackinac's famous fudge along the way.

Plus, if you go during the summer, you can experience another award-winning aspect of the island: the annual lilac festival. USA Today named the lilac festival the fifth best flower festival in the U.S. So mark your calendar for June 5-14.

Basically, Mackinac Island is a fantastic summer destination, and now everyone knows it.
