Still Seeing Green? Here’s When Lansing’s Fall Colors Should Peak
Well, fall has officially arrived in Michigan.
The fall colors? Meh. They're working on it.

If you're looking around Mid-Michigan right now wondering when all that green is finally going to turn into the reds, oranges and yellows we're all waiting for, we've probably still got a few weeks to go.
Which is absolutely fine by me. No need to rush things.
When Do Fall Colors Usually Peak Around Lansing?
Michigan State University Extension says Michigan's fall color season typically starts in the Upper Peninsula in mid-to-late September and works its way south in roughly weekly increments, eventually reaching southeast Michigan in late October.
That puts Mid-Michigan's usual sweet spot somewhere around the middle to end of October.

What Makes Michigan's Fall Colors Change?
Of course, trees don't care about our calendars.
The National Weather Service says temperature and rainfall can affect when colors develop. A cooler, wetter season can move things along earlier, while hot and dry conditions can delay things. Drought can also make colors appear dull instead of bright.
What Does This Year's Weather Mean for Lansing Fall Colors?
According to National Weather Service records, July was pretty dry. Not ideal, but it wasn't an entire summer of drought conditions. June was near normal for rainfall, August was wetter than normal, and September's had quite a bit of rain too.

Now we're getting cooler nights without the damaging hard freezes that can cut the color show short.

When Should Lansing See Peak Fall Color in 2026?
Mid-to-late October looks like the most probable window for the best colors around Lansing this year, but again, Mother Nature really doesn't publish a schedule.
A couple windy days could strip leaves off the trees and ruin everything.

For now, enjoy the green.
You'll be raking those leaves that blew into your yard from your neighbors soon enough.
