Lansing Area 911 Scam
Eaton County 911 is warning residents of a possible 911 caller ID phone scam. Officials say that a resident in a neighboring county received a call stating that a family member was injured in a vehicle accident. The caller ID showed ‘911’ on the screen and the caller was requesting personal information. Police would like to remind residents that the caller ID for 911 centers will not appear as ‘911' on your phone and will actually be displayed as a seven-digit administrative phone number or, in some cases, will be displayed as 'restricted' or 'blocked'.
Officials are also asking anyone in Eaton County who receives one of these calls to report it by calling 517-543-3510.
