Michigan craft breweries are a $2 BILLION a year business. There are around 300 craft breweries in Michigan. And, according to the Free Press, it all started in Chelsea, with the Real Ale Company, in 1982. With beer made by Ted Badgerow and his dairy farmer friend Gordon Averill, using a soup kettle and dairy tanks.

The bad news is - that company went belly up in 1984. That's when Ted sold the soup kettle to Larry Bell (ever heard of Bell's Brewery?) for $100.

The good news is - Ted is back in the craft brewery business with a place called Ypsi Alehouse, in Ypsilanti.
