Red Flags That Reveal This Amazon Text Is a Scam

I got one of these text messages, like many Michiganders, and spotted the scam right away. There were a few red flags right off the bat:

• I didn't apply to work at Amazon. This is completely unsolicited.
• The message is super generic, with no use of my name or any kind of personalization.
• The sender is a very random email address while claiming to be from Amazon.
• The job offer is vague and WAY too good to be true.
• The phone number provided for replies appears to be an international number.

If you, like me, received this text message, hopefully you ignored it and reported it as spam because that's exactly what it is.

Text messages like this aren't uncommon these days. Don't worry—you'll still see email scams, but scammers are increasingly turning to text messages as well. The Michigan Secretary of State recently put out a warning about text scams that were impersonating the SOS and for people to ignore them.

Whatever you do, don't respond to these text messages. Just report, block, delete, and move on. Stay safe out there!
