A new book is out called, "Zero Night - the Untold Story of World War Two's Most Daring Great Escape". In the book, the author, Mark Felton tells the story of 32 Allied military officers who escaped a German POW camp by building ladders, that were disguised as book shelves, to climb over the barbed wire fence. This escape took place two years before the now famous "Great Escape" from Stalag Luft III, which was turned into a 1963 Steve McQueen movie and involved escape through hand-dug tunnels. (And it doesn't take a genius to figure out that the "Hogan's Heroes" TV show had to be influenced by that story.) Looks like a lot of people think this story is even better.

Anyway, I'd never heard of this story before - and I've seen EVERY show about WWII on the History Channel - so, if you're a WWII history buff, you need to check out this article  from scotsman.com.
