The Dime Store has been a beloved tradition in many small towns across Michigan for many decades, but now, we are losing a piece of that tradition.

Dime Stores in Michigan

Dime stores, or "5 & 10s"  "Five and Dimes" or "variety stores" as they're also called, have been a way of life in small towns across America since the 1800s. No matter what you needed, it was likely that the dime store had you covered. Kids clothes or toys? Yeah, you could find them there. Tools? Sure, they've got those. They've got your crafting supplies covered with plenty of fabric and yarn as well. And don't forget about the variety of candies either!

However, as big box stores like Walmart, inexpensive stores like Dollar General, and the Internet came along, dime stores are becoming a thing of the past.

One of Michigan's Last Dime Stores is Closing Soon

Sadly, we have to say goodbye to one of the last true dime stores here in Michigan.

According to the Detroit Free Press, Springrove Variety in Marysville will soon be closing its doors for the last time.

Owner Rod Wells announced recently that the store would be closing because he's ready to retire, and patrons are very sad to see it go.

While the times are changing, this closure has been in the works for the last 5 years while Wells planned his retirement.

The Marysville location isn't the only one that's closing. There's a Springrove Variety in Owossoo that will also be closing by the end of March, or whenever they run out of items to sell, whichever comes first.

Both locations are hosting liquidation sales, so if you want to pay them a visit before they close, you may want to do it sooner rather than later.
