It's been a bad week for NASCAR. CEO Brian France was arrested on Sunday night in Sag Harbor, NY after he failed to stop at a stop sign and then was found to have a .18 blood alcohol level AND oxycodone pills in his possession. France is stepping down temporarily to address the issue. Many think France should step down permanently. And Scott Fowler, who writes for the Charlotte Observer (Charlotte, NC - not Charlotte, MI) believes he has the solution:

Make Dale Earnhardt, Jr the new NASCAR CEO.

His reasoning? "No one has a better appreciation of the sport’s history. No one is more popular or more naturally charismatic. No one knows more about what makes NASCAR fans tick than the man who was the sport’s “Most Popular Driver” for 15 years in a row before he retired."

Scott reasons that Jr could surround himself with the right business people and be the down to earth cheerleader that NASCAR needs.

When I read this the first time, I thought he was nuts - but now that I think about it.....

On a side note - this just in: According to CrainsDetroit.com, our old friend Roger Curtis, former President of Michigan International Speedway, is no longer working for the State of Michigan. He's going back to the private sector. Hmmmm. NASCAR?
