Make sure you're washing your hands very well!

According to the Lansing State Journal, Ingham County has investigated approximately 30 cases of potential Shigella, and eight confirmed cases, over the last few weeks. To put that into perspective for you, the county typically gets eight cases in a single year!

Those who become infected with Shigella typically experience diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps beginning a day or two after their exposure to the bacteria, and usually resolves within 5-7 days.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say "frequent and careful handwashing with soap" can stop the spread of Shigella. Which, by the way, is a good thing to keep in mind... If you become infected with Shigella and show no sypmtoms, you may still be able to pass the bacteria to others. So, rub-a-dub-dub, my friends!
