If you have one of those chips in your credit and/or debit cards, I'm sure you know how aggravating it can be to use one. Their purpose is to keep our information more secure, which I get, but that doesn't make them any less of a pain in the butt to use. Now, according to ABC12, chip card users need to add one more thing to the list of "Reasons Why This Card Is So Annoying To Use"...

You might get charged a service fee to use your chip card.

No, you didn't read that wrong. A fee to use your card... here's where the issue lies: Businesses are expected to be chip compatible by October, and if they aren't, they're responsible for any fraudulent charges on your card. But upgrading a credit card system can cost thousands of dollars, which can be hard for local businesses. Which is why some local businesses have introduced a small service fee.

One example of this service fee is from Roger Foutch, who owns a restaurant in Flint Township. Foutch's Pub applies an extra 3.75 percent for every bill paid with a credit or debit card. Click HERE to learn more. And don't forget to keep an eye on your receipt!
