Congratulations to Holt's Phillip Stoll. According to the Lansing State Journal he found a 10,000 year old mastodon tooth, in a creek behind his house, in Windsor Township. 9-year-old Phil was walking in the creek barefoot last summer, when he stepped on something sharp, dug it up and brought it home. It was just recently confirmed to be the tooth of a mastodon - an ancient, hairy relative of modern elephants. And since he's home-schooled, every day is show and tell and I'm going to predict that he's a shoo-in for first place at the "Stoll Science Fair" this year.
