For years, the Jeffersons have traveled up to the Petoskey area every summer and used that as a base to go further north - Cross Village and the Legs Inn, Mackinaw City, Mackinac Island, the U.P. (how many trips have we made to the Deer Ranch in St Ignace? A lot).

This weekend, if you're going up north and plan to use US-31 from Charlevoix or Petoskey to get up anywhere near "the Bridge" - you're going to get detoured. According to the Free Press, a hidden stream collapsed a part of 31 between Alanson and Brutus, so if that's your normal route, you'll need to take a 12 mile detour to get back on 31.

So, find another way. M-119 or I-75 would be my Dad-like advice. M-119 would be more fun as long as nobody's prone to car-sickness from curving roads.

Hope this helps. Here's the story.
