We all love a pop, soda, or a cold drink...whatever name you call it, there's something special about a sugary treat with your meal or on the go.

When it comes to refreshments, you also have a multitude of options. Possibly you're sick of the same national soda brands that you see in every restaurant and convenience store. Or maybe you just want to support a more local business - either way, Michigan has a multitude of pops that you can drink that are from right here in the mitten.

1. Towne Club

This Detroit-based soda company has a long history that is only recently coming back to life.

According to their website,

Towne Club first entered the market in the mid-1960s, debuting its well-loved 'Pop Shops' in Detroit. The Pop Shops offered an incredible number of soda flavors, much more than what was typically seen in grocery stores.

2. Frostie's

Based originally out of Cantonsville, the Frostie Brand came to be in 1939. They even bought out competing root beer company, Stewarts. Then in 1974, Frostie Enterprises purchased the Dog n Suds Root Beer Drive-in and brand.

They have most traditional flavors but their most unique is their green apple, which is just as hard to find as it is tasty.

3. Northwoods Soda

This Traverse City soda is a favorite for people in the northern part of the state.

Not only do they offer glass bottles for purchase, but they also have syrups available which has caused several restaurants to switch to their products entirely over using Pepsi or Coke.

4. Frankenmuth Root Beer / Frankie's Root Bier

We all know about Frankenmuth's love of Christmas, but what about their incredible root beer?

Frankenmuth Brewing Company also makes a small batch craft root beer amongst their alcoholic brew. While you won't find this one as easily in stores, if you take a tour they're worth picking up a few bottles to take along.

5. Brix Soda

Grand Rapid's own Brix Soda is a surprise hit in West Michigan.

Brix Soda Company was started by a group of friends in the Grand Rapids restaurant industry. It was born out of their desire for a “craft” fountain soda to serve guests, and it's one of my favorites to find out and about.
