This summer might call for a trip to Michigan's own version of "Disneyland".

If someone says they're visiting Disneyland, my mind automatically thinks of taking a trip to California. I mean, that's where Disneyland is located. Not to mention the many other iterations of Disney and its theme parks across the globe.

Michigan's Mini Disneyland

Well, Michigan's "Disneyland" is a little bit different.

I came across this brightly colored attraction on social media from Amazing America. It's dubbed Hamtramck Disneyland and it's not quite what you'd expect.

Hamtramck Disneyland (of no relation to the Disneyland) is located in Detroit, Michigan and was created by the now-late, Dmytro Szylak.

Szylak grew up in Ukraine and immigrated to the U.S. with his wife in the 1950s. From there, he worked for General Motors for 30 years and retired in the mid 80s, when he began creating this multi-hued wonder.

What Does Hamtramck Disneyland Look Like?

The alley and the property are covered in all kinds of bits and baubles, art, pictures, statues, toys, and more that give it this fun and Disney-like wonder. And it's all so brightly colored.

Since Szylak's passing in 2015, Hatch Art has taken over the maintenance of the art installation. Their goal is to maintain work on Szylak's folk-art landmark and remain true to his vision.

How Can You Visit Hamtramck Disneyland?

Hamtramck Disneyland is on a residential property, and it's in a residential neighborhood, so you can't simply walk through it. You'll have to stick to the adjacent alleyway, but there's a lot to see from there.

However, you can get a closer look at the backyard and the workshop by contacting a caretaker with Hatch, as you'll have to have one present if you'd like to walk through.

If you'd like to view it from the alley, "Hamtramck Disneyland" is located at 12087 Klinger in Detroit.
