The first official day of spring is March 20th - one week from today. Yes, there are still cold days ahead, but it appears the Great Lakes hit their peak ice cover last weekend. According to MLive.com, the Great lakes had 81% ice cover. This is higher than usual for the whole system, but not as high as even four years ago.

Lake Superior and Lake Erie had the most ice cover, Lake Ontario (as usual) had the least. Weather satellites caught it all.

So, get the shanties off the lake, get the flip flops out and prepare for your UPS guy to start showing some leg (is there an actual day when that happens?)

Bottom line: Spring and summer are imminent.
