New Life for Spagnuolo’s Location in Okemos
A longtime favorite restaurant in Okemos is getting new life.
What’s Happening at the Former Spagnuolo’s?
Sadly, back in July, Spagnuolo's Restaurant in Okemos announced that it would be permanently closing its doors after 34 years of service. Local loyal patrons were sad to see it go.
Now, after being closed for a couple of months, something new is going into that location.
New Lansing Area Restaurants
Rumor has it that Gjoni's Bar & Restaurant is taking over the spot at 662 W Grand River Avenue in Okemos.
The news came from word of mouth on a pretty reliable source: the Lansing Foodies Facebook page. Kate posted that "The old Spag's on Grand River will be reopening soon as Gjoni's Restaurant and Bar! Great menu planned! Serving pizza as well!"

Always being curious about new restaurants, I checked the comments section to see what people were saying. While there, I found confirmation about the upcoming restaurant with a link to its website.

As of right now, there's no menu posted. Just the beginnings of a website that says "coming soon" and a place to apply. But one detail I really love about the website so far is the helpful pronunciation guide—Gjoni's is pronounced the same as 'Johnny's', if you were wondering.
Who’s Behind Gjoni’s Bar & Restaurant?
Another fun fact about Gjoni's is that the owner also owns Dan's Coney Island in Lansing, which serves up a fantastic breakfast. So, I'm excited to see another locally owned business take over the space.
Currently, there's no exact opening date, just a general "coming soon". We'll keep you updated on when they open.
