Gilbert Chocolates Meridian Mall/Okemos, MI Location Is Closed

Sunday afternoon (February 28th) I was running some errands and had to stop by the Meridian Mall. As I was about to head into the building (at the entrance where the old Ruby Tuesdays used to be), I saw a gentleman walking out of the mall with a pretty decent sized mirror. It was nice and framed and I did read the world Gilbert on it.

Honestly, I really thought nothing more of it other than that's a nice mirror and I wonder where he was going to put it in his house.

It never occured to me that it came from the store In the mall.

And as I was walking by Gilbert's to head to Bath and Body Works I see this.

Gilbert's looked very empty. Just a few things.

They were packing up. Things were on sale and marked down.

It felt very final. Like "going out of business" and "closing for good" final.

I had to ask.

"You guys moving to a different location in the mall? In the city?"

"No. We're shutting this one down."

They let me know that you can still visit them at both locations in Jackson. And you can definitely order online. Even on Amazon (search Gilbert Chocolates). But Sunday was the last day to get this in Okemos.

I checked their Facebook page (Lansing/Okemos location) for an official statement. It was dated February 26th.

I didn't ask them why. I could only imagine that business was not faring well in light of the pandemic and this was another local favorite gobbled up by circumstances and situations due to the virus.

But this is just this location. Please support them in Jackson if you can.
