German Olympic Bobsled Team Has a Michigan Connection
Eric Franke came to America as a high school exchange student in 2007. According to MLive.com, he'd been a student at a sports school in Germany, where he was in training for track year round. And then he ended up going to high school for a year in - you guessed it - Frankenmuth, where he taught everybody a thing or two about training and running. After going back to Germany for his senior year, he continued training, but wasn't going to make the Olympics, so he gave it up.
Four years ago, he decided to give bobsledding a try.
This week, you'll see Eric in the German four-man bobsled team piloted by Nico Walther. The actual competition starts on Saturday, with the medal round on Sunday. Their bobsled team is ranked third in the world - so they've got a healthy shot at a medal.
I'm sure they'll be watching at Zehnders.
