For the uninformed, which until a couple of minutes ago included me, this Wednesday is Potato Day at the Capitol.

What does that mean? Well a lot of things like the Michigan Potato Industry Commission using the date and the event to raise awareness about potatoes in our state. You see, we grow a lot of potatoes here in Michigan.

Now, according to the Lansing State Journal if you're downtown at the Capitol around the north lawn on Wednesday from 11 until 1, you can score some free potatoes for Potato Day. They will be in the form of fresh cut fries and there will also be potato chips from Great Lakes Chips, Uncle Ray's and Better Made. All of these chips are made right here in Michigan.

The Ingham Intermediate School District's Culinary Arts & Hospitality program will also feature dishes at the event made from potatoes.

Get more info from the Lansing State Journal here about Potato Day and some great free food.
