Some first-graders at Pinecrest Elementary in East Lansing are lucky (IMO) to have Shawn Millhouse for a teacher and Barb Soper as a volunteer tutor, because:

1: They're good teachers.

2. They still know how to write letters, and (most importantly)...

3. They're not shy.

According to the Lansing State Journal, this past school year, the class studied about some past and present people and causes and then sent letters to celebrities, foundations and politicians to let them know six-year olds (at least some in East Lansing) are always watching. They got responses to a lot of their letters, including a postcard from the people at Disney, coupons for free ice cream from Meijer and a note from Queen Elizabeth's Lady-In-Waiting, sharing with them the Queen's best wishes and thanks for the pictures they drew for her. If that weren't enough, Prince William and Duchess Kate sent each of the kids "royal mail", with photos of themselves and their kids.

Wait until they're a little older and start watching "Game of Thrones" with their friends. How many times will their friends have to hear, "You know, when I was in first grade...."
