The City of East Lansing announced earlier this week that the East Lansing Police Department is currently accepting applications for their 2019 Citizens’ Police Academy.  Here's a description of the what the Citizens' Police Academy is all about:

The 11-week course is designed to give citizens a working knowledge of the police department, while also assisting ELPD in becoming more aware of the issues and concerns of the community. Featuring classroom and hands-on instruction, the course will cover a variety of topics, including: Use of Force, patrol procedures, criminal investigations, Neighborhood Watch, disaster preparedness, a K9 Unit demonstration and more.

The Citizens’ Police Academy is free and open to all who are eligible.
