East Jordan Ironworks – Japan has a great idea for your manhole covers
Next time you're out walking your dog or just yourself, take a look at any manhole cover around here. It probably came from the East Jordan Ironworks out of East Jordan, Michigan - on the shores of Lake Charlevoix. "EJ" now operates from locations across the country (including, according to one of our listeners - Sunfield) and around the world. And while "EJ" turns out some great manhole covers, could they be better?
The answer is, "yes".
They could be painted masterpieces, like some manhole covers are in Japan. And, with that would come the new hobby of collecting "manhole-cover cards".
(Seriously - I'm not kidding)
According to RocketNews24.com, collecting cards with photos and info about painted manhole covers is already the hottest new craze in Japan. Why not here? The cards come with the GPS coordinates of the manhole cover and a little info about the artwork. The cards can be found at the various local water treatment plants. So, if you work at Southern Clinton County Muncipal Utilities Authority, you might want to get that card shop ready.
