What’s Up in Michigan This Weekend: Tacos, Cars, Beer & More
Summer's almost over... you've been meaning to get out and do something! Here are some fun things happening within a couple hours' drive of Lansing this weekend.
Grand Rapids Ballet hosts a free, outdoor summer dance festival Friday and Saturday (August 26-27) outside the Peter Martin Wege Theater. Ballet and beer. This combination doesn't happen just everywhere, you know. In addition to world-class dance, there'll be plenty of food and other live entertainment available as well.
This arts-and-crafts festival happens Friday through Sunday (August 26-28) at Canterbury Village in Lake Orion. Lots of Michigan-made food and drink will be available, artisans from all around the state will be peddling their wares, and entertainment includes a monster truck "car smash" and monster truck rides for the kids.
Who doesn't like tacos? The fun at the Novi Taco Fest comes in threes, with three stages of live entertainment and three fully stocked bars over the course of three days (Friday through Sunday, August 26th through 28th). Oh, and tacos. Plenty of tacos. Not to mention Lucha Libre wrestling and salsa dancing too.
You'll find this beer festival on the shores of Lake Michigan at Pere Marquette Beach in Muskegon this Saturday, August 27. More than 70 Michigan craft brewers will be on-site, and there'll be live entertainment all day from local, regional and national acts like Plain White T's, Filter and Lit. How many beer festivals feature a shoe check-in so you can go barefoot? This one does.
Enjoy a Civil War reenactment at Jackson's Cascade Falls on Saturday and Sunday (August 27-28). Attendees will witness battalion drills, medical scenarios, cavalry demonstrations, band performances and more.
The Michigan Renaissance Festival continues every weekend through October 2 in Holly. Travel back in time to the 16th century and enjoy the fun, including more than 100 artisans, 17 entertainment stages, and all the mead you could ever want. And turkey legs. Let's not leave those out.
The Genesee County Fair is underway through Sunday, August 28 in Mt. Morris. Events still to come include Tyler Farr in concert Thursday evening; Nelly in concert Friday evening; rodeo on Saturday; and a truck and tractor pull on Sunday. Midway rides, food and fun galore await you.
The coolest cars will be in the Grand Rapids area this weekend (August 27-28) for the 28th Street Metro Cruise. The event promises 13 miles of car displays, live entertainment, food and fun with "Main Event" sites at Rogers Plaza in Wyoming and Woodland Mall in Kentwood.
