4 Possible New Names for Comerica Park
After a quarter of a century hosting home games for the Detroit Tigers, a name change looks likely for Comerica Park.
Why Comerica Park’s Name Could Soon Change
Fifth Third Bancorp has announced that it has begun the process of acquiring Comerica Bank, the baseball stadium's namesake since play began there in 2000. No name change is expected before or during the Tigers' 2026 season, but after that, a new name is all but certain, according to Sports Business Journal.

Fifth Third, which is set to become the nation's 9th-largest bank assuming the merger with Comerica is approved, already has naming rights for several other sports facilities around the country. There's already a Fifth Third Park in South Carolina, a Fifth Third Stadium in Georgia, and a Fifth Third Field in Ohio. That means some of the most obvious choices for new names for Comerica Park would seem to be off the table.
Here are some possible new names that Fifth Third might consider when it renames the home of the Detroit Tigers.
Fifth Third Ballpark
Already has a ring to it, doesn't it? Maybe that's because there was a Fifth Third Ballpark in Grand Rapids up until 2021. The facility's been known as LMCU Ballpark since then.
Could Fifth Third choose to resurrect a name that worked for them for years but is no longer being used? It's possible.
Fifth Third Diamond at Tigers Stadium
When asked about the inevitable name change, Fifth Third released a statement to Detroit's WXYZ TV stating that "naming rights are a major part of the acquisition" and that they're "committed to thoughtful decisions that reflect our shared values and long-standing community ties".
What better way to put your money where your mouth is (Ooh! Bank pun!) than to give a nod to the ol' Tiger Stadium of yore. How about Fifth Third Diamond at Tiger Stadium? Or add an 'S' to Tiger if you're in the mood for a little nuance.
Fifth Third Coliseum
To be fair, the word "coliseum" conjures up a grander, more majestic presence than Comerica Park truly is. However, the name Fifth Third Coliseum hasn't ever been used, and the word can and has been used as a synonym for "stadium".
Not really sold on that one, but this last one sort of feels right.
Tigers Park at Fifth Third Center
Fifth Third Center is the shared name of skyscrapers in several cities where Fifth Third Bancorp does business, including Nashville, Charlotte, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Dayton, and Toledo, just to name a few.

It's clear that the powers-that-be like the sound of "Fifth Third Center".
Let's add that nod to the Detroit community and to baseball fans everywhere by renaming Comerica Park as "Tigers Park at Fifth Third Center". Tigers fans get to feel some ownership, Fifth Third gets to slap its name on yet another facility — win, win!
