Blake Shelton Shares the Best Mother’s Day Gift Ever
Blake Shelton is asking his fans to join together with him for a very special reason this Mother's Day.
The country superstar and his fellow The Voice coach Adam Levine have partnered with Nissan to promote the Red Thumb campaign, which is designed to save lives by encouraging people not to text and drive.
"Every year, too many people die because we don't put down our phones while driving," the campaign's website states. "This has to stop."
The campaign is simple, as Shelton explains in the commercial above, which begins with him joking around with Levine about how they love each other "most of the time."
"But you know who does love you, 24/7? Your mom," Shelton says. "And Mother's Day is Sunday, May 10, so join me, Nissan and The Voice, and give your mom the best gift ever."
"Promise to put your phone down while driving," Levine adds. "Mark your thumb red, and then post your video promise with the hashtag #redthumb."
The movement began simply enough, Red Thumb Reminder founder Steve Babcock explains. He was inspired to start the Red Thumb movement by his daughter, who had a habit of tying a piece of yarn around her finger to remind her of something. Babcock painted his thumbnail red to remind himself to put down his phone while driving, and “as silly as it sounds, it totally worked," he says.

"Come on, people, let's make this a thing," Shelton urges.
