Oxford Dictionaries just announced last week that the word of the year for 2013 is..."selfie".

This is the world's first selfie. This man's name is Robert Cornelius.

Bob was an amateur chemist in Philadelphia. In 1839 he had a camera set up in the back of his parent's store. He took off the lens cap, ran around to the front and sat there for a full minute before covering the lens cap up again - because that's how it was done back then. This was barely a year after the first photograph of people had been taken in France. So, yes, history buffs, the oldest surviving photograph is from France.

But we had the first "selfie".
