Today we learn about our furry friend, the Chinchilla. Chinchillas are native to South America. They are native to the Andes Mountains, but there are very few left in the wild. Because their fur is very soft. Too bad for them. Today, the only wild herds (it is proper to call their colonies "herds") are in Peru and Chile. If you ever go to the Potter Park Zoo, especially if you're there for some kid's birthday party, perhaps my daughter Brooke will let you pet the one she's holding in the accompanying photo. It does not have a name, because it's a wild animal and could obviously lunge at your throat at any moment.

The Chinchilla. Not Brooke. Unless you take her slice of pizza away.
