Asteroid Passes By Earth CLOSERTHANTHIS – Nobody Saw It Coming

On Sunday, an asteroid flew by Earth and just missed us. It wasn't a big asteroid, maybe twenty feet across, but if it would've hit you, you would've known it. This was the closest an asteroid has ever flown past earth and not hit us. Interesting, huh?

Here's another interesting fact: we didn't know it almost hit us, UNTIL SIX HOURS AFTER IT ALMOST HIT US!

According to Space.com, the asteroid, now known as 2020QG (my guess is that stands for "Quite Gobsmacked") flew past at almost 28,000 mph and missed us by 1800 miles, the distance between Detroit and Los Angeles - or, in astronomical terms - a frog's hair. But we didn't know that until six hours later.

Paul Chodas, the director of NASA's Center for Near Earth Object Studies, told Business Insider."The asteroid approached undetected from the direction of the sun. We didn't see it coming." Chodas then went on to say,

Yesterday's close approach is [the] closest on record. If you discount a few known asteroids that have actually impacted our planet.

Why, yes - you might want to interview some dinosaurs about that.
