First Celebrity Breakup of 2024: Amazon & Venmo
If you typically use Venmo to pay your Amazon orders in Michigan (or anywhere else for that matter), you'll have to find a new way starting January 10.

Amazon and Venmo Are Breaking Up
Amazon, the world's largest online retailer, and Venmo, a popular peer-to-peer money transfer app, had only been together a little over a year.

I recently paid for a few things on Amazon using my Venmo account, and received this ominous email from Venmo:
Starting January 10th, 2024, you will no longer be able to use your Venmo account to make purchases on Amazon. Between now and January 10th, you may continue to make purchases as usual.
Beyond January 10th, while your Venmo account won’t be available as a payment method on Amazon, you can still use the Venmo Debit Card or Venmo Credit Card to make Amazon purchases. When you shop online or in-store with your Venmo Debit Card or Venmo Credit Card, you can earn unlimited cashback.
You can still use your Venmo account to make purchases at thousands of your favorite apps and sites, including DoorDash, Starbucks and Uber. Just link your account and pay in a few taps.
Retaildive.com reports that while "Venmo will no longer be accepted on the e-commerce giant’s website or app... customers can still use nearly a dozen other payment options, such as debit cards, credit cards, checking accounts, or installments to pay for their orders.”
Well, that's just great. I liked the freedom of being able to pay for my Amazon orders without having to dip directly into my bank account. Oh well.
