According to Uber, they were hacked late last year. The company made the announcement earlier this week. Uber confirmed that the breach included personal information of 57 million Uber users around the world including names, email addresses and mobile phone numbers. The names and driver’s license numbers of around 600,000 drivers in the United States were also part of that data breach. You can read Uber's official statement by clicking here.

According to Forbes, the company tried to conceal the data breach. Forbes is reporting that Uber paid $100,000 to the hackers who had accessed the data in exchange for their promise to keep quiet and delete the information. Read more about the potential cover-up by clicking here.
