As you may know, I'm a huge fan of Dale Earnhardt, Jr. And I've got a family who's worked for, or gone to Michigan State since the 1930s. (Me? I believe my 12th grade education speaks for itself)

What you may not know is - when NASCAR returns to Michigan International Speedway in August, Dale Earnhardt Jr's #88 car will be (I'm having trouble typing this) painted in maize and blue.

That's right - according to Autoweek magazine, Jr will run a car painted in University of Michigan colors. With the "block M" logo.

The reason is that Dale Jr's sponsor Axalta is now a partner with the U of M to support engineering and business students. (And, as a dad, I believe getting kids out anybody's basement is a positive thing) BTW - that link has all the photos from the unveiling of the paint scheme.

For State fans, you might enjoy the line in this article by author Zac Palmer, who refers to the U of M paint job as, "the colors of what is arguably the second best men's college basketball and football school in the state of Michigan".

Spartan fans. They're EVERYWHERE. #SpartansWill.
