Why Midwest Living Fits Me Better Than Anywhere Else

I was born and raised right here in the Mitten State. And barring anything extraordinary, I have a feeling I won't be leaving Michigan anytime soon.

There's just something about the Midwest pace of life that really calls to me.

I Didn't Choose the Midwest Life; the Midwest Life Chose Me

Sure, some might point to our flat landscape and think that life in Michigan is flat too. But it couldn't be further from the truth.

The Mitten State fits like a glove when it comes to my habits and personality quirks. Here's why it fits so well:

I like things practical, not flashy.

The Midwest mindset is functional over form. However, I'll take my functional with a bit of whimsy and cuteness wherever possible.

I'm Midwest nice.

I'm happy to hold the door for the next person, and I'll always say, "Ope, can I skootch right past ya?" whenever I need to get by in the grocery store.

I actually enjoy experiencing all four seasons.

Yes, I even like a bit of snow (within reason). I just don't want to experience all four seasons in a day, which is definitely Michigan's M.O.

Midwest food feels like a warm hug. 

I'm here for all the casseroles and crockpot meals. Plus you can never go wrong with some warm carbs.

The hustle culture of the East and West coasts is not for me. 

The Midwest pace of life is perfect for me. It's quieter, there's more space, and more moments to slow down and enjoy life; think a day at the lake and a bonfire at night.

My personality and the Midwest just speak the same language. And if any of this resonated with you, you probably live in the Midwest too.
