Western Michigan Alum Stuns the Hockey World
Scott Foster is a 36 year old accountant in Chicago, who used to play goalie for Western Michigan University's hockey team. He now plays hockey in two "beer leagues" in the Chicago area. Sometimes the Chicago Blackhawks have him hang out during the game, in case they need an emergency goalie. They never do. In fact only one other NHL team has ever fielded one of their emergency goalies - and that was for just a few minutes. When he gets the call from the Blackhawks, Scott usually just eats free food in the pressbox during the game.
According to Time.com/Money, Thursday night, all three of the regular Blackhawk goalies went down with injuries, paving the way for Scott to get on the ice for 14 minutes and stop 7 shots on goal. Scott is now a hero in Chicago.. He's all over the internet and the Blackhawks are selling "Scott Foster" jerseys online. But, will Scott get paid?
Probably not. According to SBNation, Thursday night was considered an "amateur tryout", by the NHL, which pays nothing. If it had been a "pro tryout", Scott would've received $500 and his game jersey.
Let's hope the Blackhawks and the NHL decide to take care of Scott.
