The holidays are right around the corner, and we all know that it's easy to pack on some pounds with all the delicious food being cooked. According to the CDC, there are now twelve states with adult obesity at 35% or more with Michigan being one of them.

Those states include

  • Alabama
  • Arkansa
  • Indiana
  • Kansas
  • Kentucky
  • Louisiana
  • Michigan
  • Mississippi
  • Oklahoma
  • South Carolina
  • Tennessee
  • West Virginia

So how do you keep off your winter insulation? One easy way is to stay hydrated! And no, I'm not talking about downing your second bottle of wine. I'm talking about water. Drinking water helps you keep weight off. There's research that says drinking around eight to ten glasses of water a day can boost metabolism and suppress your appetite. Not really a fan of plain old water? Spruce your water up by adding some fruit to it! I always love a good lemon or raspberry water. Fun fact, adding lemon to your water can help reduce your appetite.

Not a morning person? Believe it or not, I feel that. Working out in the morning is more effective for weight loss than working out later in the day, though. Hate working out? I feel that one too. Every time I work out, I'm like, "This is the worst, why am I doing this?" But hey, I'm not saying you have to run a marathon every morning, just get a nice walk in or lift some light weights.

We often make our dinners the heartiest meal, but research says your last meal should be your lightest. I know at the end of the say all I want to do is sit down on the couch and stuff my face with junk food. But you know what they say, "eating late at night causes you to gain weight." Researchers say you should make your breakfast or lunch your heartier meal because that's when we're most active and our body needs the energy. Great news for me because I love a big breakfast!
