There are So Many Bugs in the Upper Peninsula This Year, It’s Like Driving Through a Hailstorm
That's a load of bug guts on one windshield. It's been a particularly rough summer for bugs across Michigan's Upper Peninsula. This video captured recently south of Munising really gives you a feel for how the critters are impacting the Yooper summer.
Now some might say that midge flies, mayflies or fish flies are just a fact of life in the UP. But this is a little much as these comments on Facebook can attest:
That happened to my son and brother a few years ago driving up north, like to never got the bugs off the car
hell no had that on the bikes once....
Between the snow and the bugs, I don't know how you do it!
Back in 2017 a giant swarm of insects made it look like there was a bug tornado ready to touch down along M-35 north of Menominee along the Green Bay shore.
And it's not just the Upper Peninsula. Check out this infestation of fish flies at the I-75 welcome center near Monroe not far from Lake Erie. This image is from the summer of 2017.
