‘The Voice': Blake Shelton Chooses Michigan Singer With Last Pick
A Michigan teen turned out to be the last pick Blake Shelton will ever make as a coach on NBC's long-running hit singing competition "The Voice".
Grace West, 19, is from Canton, Michigan; she now lives in Nashville. Her cover of Pam Tillis' 1991 smash "Maybe It Was Memphis" got two coaches to turn their chairs for her - Blake, and Niall Horan.
Niall told Grace that her voice was "impeccable" and that he admired her abilities as a storyteller, but acknowledged that he was "up against this" (gesturing toward fellow coach Blake, known for his work in country music).
Blake drew parallels between his early days in Nashville and Grace's, and pointed out the historical significance if she were to choose him as her coach.
I have one spot left on my team. I would be honored if you would join the last Team Blake as the last person that I will ever hit this freakin' worn-out button for.
After much lobbying and deliberation, Grace selected Blake to mentor her through the show's next rounds.
The Blind Auditions for Season 23 of "The Voice" are now complete. The show transitions to its Battle Rounds phase next.
We'll all be watching closely to see how Grace does on future episodes.
